Q: What does “Probate” stand for?

A: Probate is an acronym that stands for “Painful Robbery Of Bank Accounts, Time, & Energy”.

OK, so maybe it’s not actually an acronym, but that’s still a very accurate description and easy way to remember why it’s so terrible!  Technically, probate is the term used to describe the court-supervised transfer of assets following the death of an individual, and it’s infamous for being a process that’s 1) Long 2) Expensive, and 3) Public.

In next week’s #WednesdayWisdom, we’ll talk about which estates are subject to probate and give you a tool to determine whether or not your OWN estate would be subject to PROBATE upon your passing!
